Question : I am 65 years of age and all of my child bearing life I have had problems with my hormones, I have had a hysterectomy, due to fibroids, both ovaries removed because of cysts but in all of that time I’ve had an ongoing problem with a cyclical problem I literally fill up with toxins it is in my head, abdomen and goes into my chest, I feel confused, dizzy and sick it makes me feel so dreadful it can last up to 3 weeks and then it subsides, I pick myself up again only for it to happen again. I was told by one gynecologist that I have been putting massive amounts of oestrogen all my life. I have used cyclogest suppositories
which worked at first but my body just gets used to things. Who do I turn to get help. My doctors seem to be at a loss and can only suggest HR. SHould I pay to see an endrocrinologist?

Answer : I don’t believe it’s possible that your symptoms are due to too much estrogen. Since having both ovaries removed, you have very little estrogen in your body unless you take estrogen replacement. Most likely your symptoms don’t have anything to do with hormones at all, although hormonal changes may have aggravated it when you were younger. I don’t think an endocrinologist will help, unless you have some endocrine problem other than female hormones. I would recommend a good internal medicine specialist, who can do an exam and tests to figure out what’s really causing your symptoms. They are unusual symptoms, and it will require some good medical detective work to know the cause. Best wishes.
